Do you want to know how to make your own vanilla extract?
This is as easy as it gets folks.
The only thing you need is vodka and…
Get out of here right?
I got my 4 ounce bottles from Speciality Bottles online.
I ordered five bottles and gently washed them with soap and water.
The ratio is 2 beans for 4 ounces of vodka.
You want to take a knife and make a slit lengthwise down the bean without actually cutting it in two pieces.
Just to allow it to work it’s magic in the vodka.
Then cut the bean in half.
Do this twice and put 4 pieces in each bottle.
Now add vodka up to the top of the beans.
Fill’ er up!
So now the part that takes patience.
The waiting is the hardest part. ( I can just hear Tom Petty singing this.)
Here they are in my closet.
I turned the light on to take a picture but they need to be in a cool dark place.
Once a week take them out and shake them for 10 seconds.
They need about 5-8 weeks.
The longer the better.
I am making them for my family for Christmas so plan ahead.
Also, when they get low (1/3) you can add more vodka.
The beans are good for a year.
How great it that.
I’m designing some labels now for the bottles.
When I finish them I will add them to this post.
Free of course.
I’m so excited for homemade vanilla extract!
