My son tells his father to stop yelling at him.
His father tells him he never raised his voice.
What my son means is that his father is not talking nice.
He is using toxic words like dopey, retarded, stupid and not smart.
My son is smart, very smart.
His counselor tells me she tested him for the gifted program and he barely missed the mark.
But my son does not know how to handle adversity.
And obviously neither does his father.
They like labels to simplify things.
But life is not simple and labels are offensive.
What his father really means is I am stressed out because this is a tough job. (Parenting)
I am in the next room and I wish I could give them the words they cannot find.
But when I try to his father tells him Mommy is picking a fight.
So they go round and round repeating the same cycle day after day.
And I think this is why I want to hang a sign on my front door that looks like this:
We all need to think twice before we use them.
